The Wave of American Flavors
Have you ever taken a trip to Walt Disney World and had a night where (GASP) you DIDN’T have a dining reservation? Well I have done just that and (luckily) happened upon a great, albeit lesser known restaurant called The Wave of American Flavors at the Contemporary Resort right next to the Magic Kingdom! I was meandering through the kingdom in search of food (as I often do) and decided to just check the My Disney Experience app to see what dinner reservations might be open in the area. Twice I have done this and found both dinner and breakfast reservations at The Wave within 10 minute windows, and boy was I not disappointed in the slightest!
The Wave is on the bottom floor of the Contemporary Resort near the check in area, an easy 10 minute walk from the exit of Magic Kingdom or you can choose to take the monorail. The Wave has an ever-changing menu of fresh dishes, usually dependent on what is in season. From delicious steaks, to perfectly fresh fish, a vast list of beer and wine, and for breakfast the most delicious sweet potato pancakes you could find (at a low price for a buffet to boot!) The atmosphere is very clean and contemporary, and most importantly welcoming. No dress code required! It’s also pretty calm and quiet compared to other louder restaurants for a romantic or relaxing dinner experience.
The servers were fantastic! They had many great recommendations and always saw the food came out perfect and drinks were always filled. The Wave also has a wonderful bar and lounge area (with semi private seating) with some great unique and delicious cocktails and appetizers! I even was given a free Mickey chocolate cake and an embarrassing singing of happy birthday right at the bar! I highly recommend this to anyone looking to try something new. Reservations seem to be easy to get and prices are very fair!
