Magic and Wonder The Disney Magic and Disney Wonder are the first two ships that launched Disney Cruise Line’s fleet in 1998 and are commonly referred to as the “Classic Ships”. They are comparable in size and layout.

- Number of Staterooms: 875 o Inside: Standard or Deluxe (184-214 sq ft) o Ocean View: 2 small portholes or 1 large porthole (214 sq ft) o Verandah: Deluxe or Family (268-304 sq ft, including verandah) o Suites/Concierge: Family (304 sq ft), 1-Bedroom (614 sq ft), 2-Bedroom (945 sq ft), or Royal (1029 sq ft). - Passenger Capacity 2,400

- Uniquely Disney: o Some of the largest staterooms in the industry. o Split bath: one bathroom with a vanity, sink, shower and tub and another half bathroom with a vanity, sink and toilet (all except standard inside staterooms). o Privacy curtain divides sleeping and main sitting areas. o Lots of storage including closet, shelves, drawers and a closet safe. There is ample space underneath the bed to store suitcases and other large items. Plus many cabins include a steamer trunk with shelves for even more storage. o Small beverage cooler in each room. Not quite as cold as a true refrigerator but still great for keeping drinks and snacks cool. o Unlike other cruise lines, the queen bed cannot be split into two twin beds. o In room programming includes Disney Movies and Channel programs, networks like ESPN & ABC, and recent theatrical releases. If you decide to stay in for the evening, live shows are streamed into your stateroom TV!

Dining: The Magic and Wonder both have fine dining, casual dining, adult exclusive, and a variety of snack options.

- Fine Dining: o Lumiere’s (Magic) or Triton’s (Wonder): Elegant decor, French/Continental menu. o Animator’s Palate (Magic & Wonder): High tech dinner shows, California cuisine. o Rapunzel’s Royal Table (Magic) or Tiana’s Place (Wonder): Live music & show, themed menus.

- Casual Dining: o Cabanas: Breakfast & Lunch buffet, Table Service Dinner o Pete’s Boiler Bites: Burgers, hot dogs, fries, poolside o Pinocchio’s Pizza: Pizza by the slice, poolside o Daisy’s De Lites: Salads, Sandwiches, Fruit, & Wraps, poolside o Room Service: Available all day. The “All Hands on Deck” cheese tray is a perfect pre-dinner snack while getting ready for dinner. It’s not on the menu, but Mickey Bars are also available through room service!!

- Adult Exclusive Dining: o Palo: Elegant, Modern Northern Italian Cuisine for Dinner or Brunch (on sea days). Reservations necessary and additional fee ($30 per person). o Cove Café: Coffee and espresso drinks for additional fee. Pastries and snacks free, in the adult only area.

* Uniquely Disney: o Rotational Dining: Guests rotate through the three fine dining restaurants each night of their cruise. Wait-staff, familiar with guests’ preferences, rotate with them for a seamless service experience. o Dine & Play: Kids (3-12) can be served their meals first and will then be escorted by counselors to the Oceaneer Club/Lab to take part in evening activities, allowing parents to enjoy their meals leisurely. Only available second seating. o All-inclusive Beverage Station: Soft drinks, coffee, tea and hot chocolate available 24 hrs a day on Deck 9

Entertainment, Recreation, and Age Specific: The Magic and Wonder are floating Disney resorts with Disney quality service and programming for all ages.

- Entertainment: World class themed shows and live entertainment o Walt Disney Theater: Broadway style shows like Tangled (Magic) or Frozen (Wonder), live performances (magic, comedy, bands), or new movie releases nightly. o Buena Vista Theater: Blockbuster and Disney classic movies shown throughout the day. Equipped with 3-D technology. o Live Entertainment: Smaller venues hosting live entertainment and music with shows suited towards the whole family or adults. o Deck Parties: Pirate party starring Jack Sparrow or Frozen party with Anna & Elsa, fireworks, and dessert buffet afterwards.

* Uniquely Disney: o Castaway Cay: Disney’s private island in the Bahamas where you can swim, snorkel, ride bikes, experience stingrays, parasail, jet-ski, and fishing (many activities are added fees). Food and youth activities are inclusive, cabanas for rent, adult only private beach and a 5K fun-run.

Reflections: The “Classic” Disney ships, Magic and Wonder, may be Disney’s older ships but they are constantly renovating and innovating the ships so they never feel outdated. They are a comfortable size so you are never too far from your stateroom or whatever activity you choose to take part in. Because the Magic and Wonder spend their summers in Europe and Alaska, they offer greater variety in their itineraries and length of sailings. I would choose these ships if you are looking for a high-end Disney vacation and the priority of your vacation is the destination you are travelling to. Disney does a great job of incorporating elements of the destinations they visit into all aspects of the cruise experience, including menus, entertainment, and even the Disney characters on board the ship. On the Iceland Norway cruise we saw Mickey and friends dressed in Scottish Kilts in Scotland, a Frozen Deck party in Norway, and a trio of sisters playing Celtic music and Irish dance nightly. The food offerings throughout the ship featured locally inspired selections, like bangers & mash in England. In this way, Disney provides guests with a truly immersive, completely Disney travel experience.
